Method
Preparation
- Begin by peeling the onions and cutting off the top and bottom.
- Place them cut-side down and carefully slice a few layers down, being cautious not to cut all the way through to keep the onion's shape.
Batter Preparation
- In one bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, beat the egg.
- In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
Coating
- Dip each onion into the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
- Next, dip them in the beaten egg, and finally coat them with breadcrumbs.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Spray the basket with cooking oil spray to prevent sticking.
- Place the blooming onions in the air fryer basket, ensuring they’re not overcrowded.
- Spray the tops with cooking oil and cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove them and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and consume within 3 days. To reheat, place them back in the air fryer for a few minutes. Uncooked, breaded onions can be frozen individually before placing in a zip-top bag.
